Sougen Shuzou

Ishikawa, HokurikuFounded 1768

Sogen Shuzou, founded in 1768 (Meiwa 5) during the mid-Edo period, is located in Suzu City at the tip of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, a region in the northern central part of Honshu, Japan. With over 250 years of history, it is a brewery steeped in tradition. In sake brewing, the craftsmen who oversee the brewing process are known as toji. The Noto Toji, who work in breweries across Japan, are considered one of the nation's four major toji groups, and Sogen is often regarded as their birthplace.Sogen Shuzou has endured significant challenges, including the Noto Peninsula Earthquake on January 1, 2024, and the Noto Peninsula Heavy Rainfall on September 21–22 of the same year. Despite these adversities, we continue to brew sake as we do every year, maintaining our dedication to tradition and quality.
