Founded in 1702 (Genroku 15) in Sawai, a village on the trade route connecting Edo and Koshu, Sawanoi has been cherished for over 300 years as a local sake of Okutama, Tokyo.Although Okutama is part of Tokyo, it is characterized by its deep mountains and gorges. The area of Sawai, where Sawanoi originated, is known as a "village of fine water" due to its pristine and abundant streams. The name Sawanoi derives from this place name.Around the brewery, visitors can enjoy various attractions, including Sawanoi-en, a spot offering light meals and souvenirs, and Kikizake-dokoro, where you can savor the fine sake of Sawanoi. There are also establishments such as Mamagotoya and Mameraku, which serve tofu and yuba made with Sawanoi's brewing water, and CAFE Shizuku, known for its coffee brewed with the same pure water. These facilities attract many visitors year-round.
