Komatsu Shuzoujou brewery

Komatsu Shuzoujou

Oita, KyushuFounded 1868

Founded in 1868, our brewery benefits from a unique environment that includes mineral-rich underground water with a hardness of 150, rice grown in the Usa Plain, and the winter monsoon winds. Although production was temporarily halted in 1988, it resumed in 2008 when the sixth-generation owner returned to the brewery. This marked the launch of a new junmai sake brand, Hojun.Since 2009, we have focused on reviving Oitamii, a heritage rice variety native to Oita Prefecture, and we are the only brewery in Japan to produce junmai sake exclusively using Oitamii. In 2018, we celebrated our 150th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of the Hojun brand.
